Weber Presents Chicago's Backyard Barbecue Grilling Contest

Official Rules

1. To enter: Go online to www.weber.com, click on the Weber Presents Chicago's Backyard Barbecue link, fill in the Chicago's Backyard Barbecue Contest Entry Form and submit an essay (50 words or less). Essay should explain why you are Chicago's Best Barbecuer and why your Ribeye Steak is the best of all of Chicago's Backyard Barbecuers.

Online essay entries will be accepted between June 22, 2005, 12:00 Noon CST and July 26, 2005, 12:00 AM CST. Entries that are incomplete, illegible, corrupted or that contain 51 words or more, will be considered to be void and will not be accepted. Weber-Stephen Products Co., 200 E. Daniels Road, Palatine, IL 60067 (ÒSponsorÓ), is not responsible for telecommunications, network, electronic, technical, or computer failures of any kind, inaccurate transcription of entry information, human error, or for entries that are stolen, misdirected, garbled, delayed by computer transmission, lost, late, or damaged. All entries become the property of the Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned.

2. Participants must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age or older as of the date of entry to qualify/win.

3. Chicago's Backyard Grilling contest is open to all legal residents of the United States, except employees of the Sponsor, and Big Creek Productions, LLC (ÒEvent ProducerÓ) their family members, employees of the parent corporations, affiliates, subsidiaries, agencies and persons living in the same households.

4. A panel of judges will review all essay entries on creativity (40%), appropriateness to theme (40%) and clarity of expression (20%). All decisions are final.

5. Thirty (30) contestants will be notified and invited to compete in Chicago's Backyard Barbecue contest, and will be required to remit a $50 entry/participation fee, on Sunday, July 31, beginning at 11 a.m. at Kendall College, 900 N. Branch, Chicago, IL

6. The Competition: Two (2) Ribeye Steaks must be cooked from the raw state during the competition on grills provided by Weber-Stephen Products Co. The Ribeye Steaks may include any combination of marinades, rubs, glazes, relishes, and sauces, as long as all preparation is done within the allotted time (one hour) and all cooked elements of a recipe are done on a Weber¨ grill. Recipes that contain any directions that call for the use of conventional ovens, microwave ovens, or other cooking appliances will be disqualified. The use of small food preparation appliances, such as food processors or blenders, is acceptable. All Ribeye Steaks must be completely preparable within one hour. Side dishes and garnishes to plates are not allowed.

7. Contest Judging: There will be three rounds of 10 contestants grilling Ribeye Steaks at one time. Each round will be judged separately and will be based on the criteria in section 5 above, as well as the creativity of the written essay (0-20 points possible), visual appeal and presentation of the grilled Ribeye Steak (0-30 points possible), and taste of the grilled Ribeye Steak (0-50 points possible).

8. Event Producer and Sponsor will provide participants with all the necessary food; including a 22.5 inch One-Touch¨ Gold charcoal grill, grilling tools (spatula, fork, tongs) and additional equipment for each contestant to use; contestant must supply ingredients only for their own marinades, rubs, glazes, relishes, and sauces. The Ribeye Steaks will be prepared by the contestants and tasted by an independent Backyard Barbecue Judging Panel (four people plus a head judge). In the Backyard Barbecue judging, the decisions of the judges are final and binding.

9. First Prize winner will win one (1) Weber¨ GenesisTM Silver B gas grill (RV $599.00), one (1) Weber¨ Styleª 3-piece stainless steel tool set (RV 34.99), and one (1) Weber's Real Grillingª cookbook (RV $24.95). One (1) Runner-Up winner will win one (1) Weber¨ PerformerÒ charcoal grill (RV $349.00), one (1) Weber¨ Styleª 3-piece stainless steel tool set (RV 34.99), and one (1) Weber's Real Grillingª cookbook (RV $24.95). One (1) Third-Place winner will win one (1) Weber¨ Qª gas grill (RV $199.00),one (1) set of Weber¨ Qª stainless steel tool set (RV 34.99), and one (1) Weber's Real Grillingª cookbook (RV $24.95).

10. No substitution or transfer of prizes permitted. Prizes can only be delivered to an address in the Continental U.S. Households in Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and island U.S. territories and ineligible. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute similar prizes of equal or greater value at its sole discretion. All taxes and all other expenses associated with the acceptance and/or use of any prize are the sole responsibility of the winner.

11. By participating in this grilling competition, entrant agrees to read, understand, abide by, and be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the judges, which are final in all matters relating to the essay and grilling contest. Winners will be required to sign an Affidavit of Eligibility, Ownership and Liability Release, plus Copyright Assignment, and submit a $50 entry fee within 10 days of notification. Subject to all U.S. federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited. In the event of non-compliance with the rules, an alternate winner will be selected using the judging criteria above.

12. Acceptance of prize offered constitutes permission to use winners' names, likeness, voice, essays, and biographical information for advertising/trade purposes without further compensation, unless prohibited by law.

13. Upon receipt of any prize in the contest, the Winners agree to release and hold harmless Sponsor, and its affiliates, directors, officers, employees and agents from any liability for damage, injury, death, loss, cancellation, or other liability arising from the Winner's acceptance or use of any prize or substitute prize or their participation in this contest, including without limitation, personal injury, death, and property damage, and claims based on publicity rights, defamation, or invasion of privacy or from any misuse or malfunction of such prize or substitute prize. Sponsor and its affiliates, directors, officers, employees and agents assume no liability for losses incurred as a result of cancellation of the contest or for any reason whatsoever or through the acts or defaults of any company or person providing any prize or for events occurring after the award of such prize. All such losses or expenses will have to be borne by the individual contest winners.
